Lammas/Lughnasadh is a Celtic festival that celebrates the beginning of summer.

In Pagan traditions, Lammas—also known as Lughnasadh—is a harvest festival celebrated on August 1. It marks the beginning of the grain harvest and is one of the eight Wiccan sabbats. The name "Lammas" comes from the Old English hlaf-maesse, meaning "loaf mass," reflecting the tradition of baking bread from the first harvested grains.

Lammas is often associated with Lugh, the Celtic god of craftsmanship and skill. Some traditions honor him with feasts, games, and rituals. In early Ireland, harvesting grain before Lammas was considered bad luck, as it signified that the previous year's harvest had run out too soon.

Modern Pagan and Wiccan celebrations include:

Baking bread as an offering to the harvest gods.

Decorating altars with symbols of the season, such as corn, apples, and sunflowers.

Crafting and skill-based activities in honor of Lugh.

Harvest rituals, where participants express gratitude for the earth’s abundance.
