Liminal Awareness as The Veil Thins

Everyone's life should be magical. Otherwise, what's really the point? I don't mean silly, fairy princess magic; I'm speaking of awe, wonder and gratitude for the opportunity to experience our five senses and then some! Being in a physical body offers the soul the ability to know how it feels to walk in the physical realm while remaining connected to something eternal. Something magical. I am reminded of the 6 of Swords in the Tarot-- a woman travels in a boat manned by a guide, across water (consciousness). She is doing more than simply moving across water to a new home. She is making a journey from the lower realms to the higher realms. She leaves behind everything for a new start, with complete trust that the lantern-bearing guide is sure of the way.
Do you ever ask yourself, 'What is this life and what is it actually for?' Too scary for most people to ponder. They would rather trudge through the day to day with muted sight. I'm not saying that folks should toss aside their means of earning a living. Of course not. But one can live from a place of awe and move through the world towards their own success, simultaneously. And what if every moment is an opportunity to notice the leaves swirling around you in the wind---the lively yet invisible stirring of energy? Every single particle in our universe is alive and made of energy; nothing can be 'dead' or devoid of it. There is only transformation of that energy. Including the chair you are seated on!
I have, since as far back as I can recall, felt the movement of energy around me and within me. For me the thrill of October's arrival is like an entry into a forest where there are portals, voices, vortices, and sanctuary. I step across the veil, keeping one foot in this world, and one across the hedges. I align deeply with Hedge Druidry because it allows me to walk on this Earth while in the very same moment, plugging in to the bigger picture--a realm outside of time and space, a world quite different from this one.
At this time of year, nature offers a bountiful harvest while also releasing its need to push forth with massive growth, as it does in the Spring. I feel the ancestors whispering their guidance as I turn the corners of the shortening days and lengthening nights. The stars sparkle brighter, the clouds move hurriedly over the moon, as if they are rushing to find a cozy fireplace to sit beside as the first frost covers the land. The animals are restless, preparing for winter's meager nourishment---yet they are resourceful and make nests in trees, caves, underground, slowing down and sometimes hibernating until the Spring Equinox. I worry about them, but they speak to me with their tiny dark eyes as if to say, 'We have our own journey, just as you have yours. Do not worry.' And I toss out nuts, seeds and sometimes bread, so they know where to come if they need a little extra food.
The liminal is but a breath away; reach through the veil by noticing the energy around you, within you, in your most quiet times. Go to a forest or grove, pick up some acorns, toss them into the leaves as you ask to hear guidance or be shown a portal where you can connect with a loved one who has crossed into the next realm. Light a candle, sit quietly with pen and paper and just listen, like the Hermit in the Tarot. Write down whatever you hear, no matter how silly it sounds at the time. Go to sleep and reflect back on your writings the next day. Take a walk (safely of course) after dark and notice the energies around you, especially those that give you chills. Watch the leaves pick up around you as you walk by a group of trees.
Yes, everyone's life should be magical. But in our modern world ruled by discord and technology, we've lost touch with the simple reality that we are living flesh & blood beings that transform cellularly in every new moment, with every consecutive breath. October's crisp energy and thinning veil remind us that we are so much more than our identities, our jobs, our perceived limitations. We are an integral part of the web of all life, and as each of us makes our transition across the veil when our time comes, we will find that this world was but a simulation, and that each of us truly is a universe unto ourselves. Planet Earth is a gift to the soul from the higher realms that should be respected and honored through each season.
Blessed Samhain Season, Everyone!
